The "Hotel Des Roses" of today is an extension of the hotel business, based in the Alexandria of Egypt ( 1 ), of the late Giannis Dovas, who came from the Pelion village of Argalasti.

The Dovas family has a long tradition of working in the hotel industry, since the family’s ancestors moved to Egypt for a new life and prosperity during the second world war.

At the coastal Marsa Matrouh, located 300km west of Alexandria, ( which was Cleopatra’s favourite resort ) and close to Siba’s oasis, the family built the Hotel Zephyros ( 2 ) which had 32 rooms.

For 20 years business flourished and succeeded in the constantly increasing economical and intellectual Greek colony.

Unfortunately the Nasser’s regime in the 1965 led to the closing of the business, and the family, as well as thousands Greeks, had to leave the country.
This setback didn't stop the head of the family, Giannis Dovas. He brought back his family to Pelion and more specifically to Platanias, where his lifelong companion Toula Dova was born.

In the village of Platanias in 1966, under primitive conditions, without water and electrical power, he built the first organized hotel in southern Pelion, under the name "Villa Des Roses" ( 3 ), which initially had 14 rooms, and then becoming 27 rooms. All of this effort, was the only important thing in the life of Giannis Dovas, but it was also the stepping stone for Platanias’s development and introduction into the holiday and hotel industry.

Gianni Dovas’s target and dream, for a steady and quality holiday development eventually came true and since then, his family have operated in the tourist business, and following his values and mottos, continue to respect and care for their customers

Today, Gianni Dovas' son Nikos and his wife Yianna, a fitness / health instructor and teacher, both manage the business. Recently they fully renovated their hotel in 2003 and 2004, transforming it into a complex of 14 organised apartments.
